What is Kali Linux?

Kali Linux (formerly known as BackTrack Linux) is an open-source Debian-based Linux distribution focused on advanced penetration testing and security auditing. Read more about it on kali.org

 

Requirements:

  • Kali Linux iso - link
  • PC with windows or any installed OS
  • A USB or CD-bootable media
  • A working brain to do it
      

How to do it?

Step 1- Download kali iso from the official website kali.download. Currently, the latest version is https://kali.download/base-images/kali-2022.4/kali-linux-2022.4-installer-amd64.iso so I am downloading this file.



Step 2- Flash the iso image to the Pendrive. You need Rufus software to download the latest one from here. So now open Rufus and select the following option, as shown in the screenshot.

Step 3- After flashing the iso to the USB, next, we have to boot the kali installer from USB. Before doing that, you have to make at least 50GB free space partition to do go disk management and shrink your C drive.


Step 4- The mega step is to boot our kali installer from USB. To do this, we need to see our bios boot key to know that just a google hp boot key or a Lenovo boot key.
Here are some of the vendors.
HP - F9
Lenovo - F12 or (Fn+F12)
Dell - F12
Asus - F8

After pressing the boot key, you will get an interface like this, depending on your motherboard company.

Step 5- After booting the Kali installer, follow the screenshots to set up the installer.
=>select language.
=>select country.
=>enter hostname
=>enter username, name, and password.
=>Adjust the partitions, select 50GB free space as your / partition, and click finish setting up.
=>After setting partitions, the minimal base system of Linux will be installed.
=>Now select meta-packages to be installed like Desktop environments[xfce, gnome, and kde] and kali hacking tools[optional packages].

=>Installing grub bootloader[essential to boot].


Step 6-After installation, boot your new OS by pressing the boot key, and you have successfully installed Kali Linux.
Enter your username and password and login into kali, and happy hacking.
